Traffic technology: 4 apps every driver should have on their phone

It is the duty of every vehicle driver to drive responsibly and defensively. An organized, calm transit that does not offer imminent dangers is understood as working together.

Defensive driving principles are taught at Driver Training Centers (CFC) when future drivers are learning all about this new experience, but some things can be forgotten over time.

According to the DETRAN definition, defensive driving is understood to be “the act of driving in order to avoid accidents, despite the incorrect (wrong) actions of others and the adverse (contrary) conditions that we encounter on the roads.”

Some of the basic principles of defensive driving are: always keep your distance from the car in front (the one where you can see the complete wheel of the vehicle, at least), understand and follow traffic laws, recognize adverse conditions on the road, master the use of equipment transport and much more.

However, with the digitization of products and services in recent years, technology has arrived as an ally of responsible drivers who understand their role in the joint construction of safe traffic.

Therefore, Seguradora Zurich selected 5 tips for useful applications that every good driver should have on their cell phone, which can further improve the quality and tranquility of the roads.

However, before any tips are given, here is a reminder: do not drive while using your cell phone, in addition to being extremely dangerous, it is considered a very serious violation of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), with a fine of R$239.47 and the subtraction of 7 points in the portfolio.

Waze (iOS and Android)

The Waze application is well known as a GPS that updates routes and paths in real time depending on movement. This in itself is, yes, a solution that can help in the health of traffic, as it proposes a better distribution of cars on the streets, avoiding traffic and all the adversities derived from it – congestion, accidents, delays and everything else.

The application also shows the speedometer along with the speed limit of the road and it is possible to configure it to trigger a notification when the driver is driving above the permitted speed.

Another interesting feature is the collaboration between drivers, as it is possible to signal other issues on the roads such as holes, works, objects, accidents, police stations, intense flow, weather conditions, prohibited stretches and more.

In addition, it has a security “lock” that does not allow typing on the cell phone while identifying that the car is in motion. Always choose to put the destination and other route definitions before leaving, and if you need to move, lean the car on the curb or shoulder, with the hazard lights on or ask the co-driver in turn. You can also give voice commands so you don't have to type.

Digital Transit Wallet (iOS and Android)

With so many digital services on our cell phones, it is increasingly common for people to go out without a wallet and their physical documents. Credit cards are usually already in the Virtual Wallets of smartphones, so if you are adept at these solutions, it is quite likely that you are not carrying your CNH.

Therefore, having the Digital Transit Wallet application can be very useful if you need it when you are stopped at a police stop, especially.

To configure, you need to scan the QR code that is printed on the inside of your original document and follow the step by step.

It is also possible to identify driver or vehicle infractions, licensing issues and other important data from CRLV Digital.

Revolving paid parking (iOS and Android)

Does your city have a paid rotating parking area? These are areas where parking is allowed for a short period under payment. Failure to make this payment also generates a fine and points deducted from the National Driver's License. In many cities it is already possible to do this whole process virtually, through applications.

Check which application is in force in your city and be sure to comply with these rules so you don't have problems later.

Zurich Driver (iOS and Android)

Insurer Zurich is very concerned about the safety of its Auto Insurance customers. In addition to all the best-known coverages of good car insurance, policyholders have access to an application that helps promote more conscious traffic.

The Zurich Driver, which works in the background, registers some items and generates a final assessment of the driver. The evaluation criteria are:

  • distracted driving

  • braking

  • Acceleration

  • Speed

  • curves

The app promises to make you a better driver and, by having a safer driving style, helps reduce the risk of potential accidents.

We hope that with these tips your traffic performance will improve and become safer for you, your family and all of us.
